with Lo Höckner
From fascism to our fascia tissues: How are oppressive systems held in our bodies, and how can we transform them? Lo Höckner invites you to a „deep listening practice“ that explores how the experiences of living under fascism are not only embodied but also passed down through generations. This practice also delves into ways to build and embody resilience.
By zooming into the body with our imagination, we examine how the rigid ideologies of fascism, like the demand for strict unity, create layers of tension and defense within our bodies and minds. These responses can cause our tissues, cells and emotions to shut down as a form of protection. More importantly, we will also explore alternative experiences and body-based practices, drawing from „Somatic Experiencing“ (a method for releasing trauma), „Embodied Social Justice,“ and my background in choreography and movement.
The practice involves listening to my voice and tuning into your sensations, using your attention and imagination to explore the resilience and resources within your own body. We’ll discuss the connection between fascism and trauma, and there will be an opportunity for gentle movement if you wish.
This work was originally developed for an event focused on the re-emergence of fascism. Its goal is to share embodied tools for resilience so that we can actively fight against and heal from the impact of oppressive systems. The practice is based on the understanding that oppression continues to live on within our individual and collective bodies through inherited traumas.
Important Notice & Trigger Warning: Please be aware that we will be dealing with the topic of fascism and and touch on what trauma is. We will not go into historical details. You’ll need to be comfortable paying attention to your own body sensations. It’s important that you feel capable of taking care of yourself when engaging with these topics. If you feel overwhelmed at any point, I will help guide you to a quieter space where you can talk with someone from the hosting team from „Kiosk“ or with me directly.
